If you’ve been frustrated by combs that do not even come close to getting the excess fur from your cat (running your hand over his coat gets more hair out than the comb), here is what you need. I saw this at my vet’s office (Dr Jones, Town & Country Animal Hospital) and he told me where to get one.

It’s actually a flea comb for a dog. The handle says it’s by Four Paws, item #GC 112. I don’t have the package anymore, but on the top of the package, it said “Fine” for the size (and a picture of a German Shepherd on the package). I got it at an independent pet store (Weber’s in Fairfax VA), but I’m guessing that any flea comb with fine teeth would do (this one has 21 teeth per inch).

My cat, Neo, loves being combed with it, but be careful — it sometimes gets caught in the fur — and you want to be gentle when that happens.
