I checked out the theamazingios6maps tumblr that he links to and, although theamazingios6maps don’t mention it, Google Maps creates the same interesting effects in 3D mode with overpasses and misplaces some of the same locations.

Take it a step further, and start playing at openstreetmaps.org. I already added a ton of stuff to my small-time hometown that doesn’t have much in the new maps app.
